What are astrological houses?
Every planet, asteroid or celestial point exists within a house and that location offers valuable information not only about your personality, but also about how you coexist with the world around you. The Houses astrological are the areas of life where we direct our energies, constitute in fact the where, that is the area of our life where the planetary energies act. Linked to the reading of the birth chart, knowing the Astrological Houses allows us to direct our energies in order to reach our potential.
The astrological houses are the areas of life where we direct our energies. As with the signs, each House has its own domain, such as creativity, money, marriage, career, spirituality, health, among others. The first six Astrological Houses are known as "Personal Houses" while the last six are known as Interpersonal Houses
Symbolically, the Zodiac is much more than the Sun`s trajectory across the horizon. It represents the journey of human experience. It reflects the path of the soul (the Sun), through the various stages of life from conception, through childhood and culminating in old age. As the planets in the sky move through these domains, various events are triggered, both tangible and emotional.
On the Ascendant or cusp of the First House, the soul embodies and assumes an ego, you gain self-awareness. Passing through the Houses, the soul undergoes a symbolic progression that culminates in Pisces, where it merges with the whole and returns to the origin of all things.
Quality/Modality of Houses
Just as the zodiac signs have their own quality / modality and belong to a certain element of Nature, houses have similar modes of expression.
The corner houses are those defined by the starting points of the quadrants, which means they are at the corners of the horoscope: 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th house. These houses represent the activity and energy to move forward and are in a sense connected to the nature of Mars.
The next houses are those that follow the angular ones, protected from all changes and too many movements. They are closely related to stability, reminding us a lot about the quality of the fixed sign. These houses are 2nd, 5th, 8th and 11th.
The sagging houses are 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th and are a bit complicated, because they seem to be predecessors of what comes in the next corner house. These are houses related mainly to the learning process, but we must not neglect their role as the basis for anything created by the activities carried out later in the corner houses.
How to calculate the astrological houses?
Astrologers use various methods to calculate astrological houses. In the system of equal houses, each house covers a segment of 30 ° in the birth chart (360 ° of the zodiacal circle to be divided by 12 signs). The Midheaven (or MC) can fall into the ninth, tenth or eleventh house, depending on the latitude in which the person was born and the time of year.
In the placid system (or quadrant methods), the MC always forms the cusp of the 10th house. The divisions of the Astrological Houses are not the same, they can include up to three signs. The sign that is on the cusp is the most important of all, but all the signs manifest themselves in the context of the life in which the House is concerned. The size of a house suggests the importance of this sphere of life in a person`s birth chart.
Signs, Regent Planets and Planetary Elements of the Astrological Houses
Each house has a different sign associated with it. For example, the seventh house of the partnership is associated with the energy of Libra: Libra.
Once we`ve identified how each planet and sign work together, let`s look to the Houses to find out exactly where that energy manifests. As you read your birth chart, you may find that you have many planets in certain houses (in fact, four or more planets in a single house are called stellium), while others may be completely empty.
The first house is Mercury`s joy and is about you: your core personality, underlying motivations, style, appearance and vitality.
The second home is related to money, specifically your money and the resources you have access to that allow you to support yourself.
The third house is the joy of the Moon and is about communication in general, but more specifically communication with people who are in your local space. There is a "your zip code" element on the third; represents your peers, siblings, neighbors and really anywhere within commuting distance. It also covers mental issues, knowledge gathering, primary education, news, rumors and reports.
The fourth house refers to matters of ancestry, parents, family and your sense of "home"; it also refers to land matters and the legacies you leave behind.
The fifth house is the joy of Venus and is concerned with matters of sensual pleasure, enjoyment, recreation, procreation and creativity. Sam Reynolds calls it the home of swagger; where do you go to express yourself and to put more into the world.
The sixth house is the joy of Mars and is about disease and disease. It is also about the toil, the hard work, the toil, the servitude and the people who work for you. It also represents pets and small animals!
The seventh house refers to one-on-one interactions, most commonly marriage or romantic relationships, but also has the meaning of whoever is engaged, as the counterparty in a lawsuit, the business partner with whom we would sign a contract or our enemies.
The eighth house is the home of the inevitable: death, debt and taxes. Since it opposes the 2nd house, it has other people`s money meanings. It also represents inheritances you may receive from the dead, as well as your relationship to fear.
The ninth house is the joy of the Sun and refers to matters that illuminate and elevate our perspective: religion, philosophy, higher education and travel to distant lands. It is everything that the 3rd house is not; if the 3rd is focused on the here and now, the 9th is focused on everything else. Publishing and mass communication are part of history here; The 3rd is generating content, the 9th is spreading it.
The 10th house , called "Acts" in Greek, is what you are known for, the way you appear within public perception, career, vocation and accomplishments.
The eleventh house is the joy of Jupiter and it concerns the people you keep company: friends, groups, affiliations, associations. It also describes the positive benefits and opportunities that come your way and your aspirations.
The twelfth house is the joy of Saturn and is concerned with matters of pain, isolation, separation and confinement. Kelly Surtees describes it as a "Pandora`s box" of all the things you`d rather forget about that can be brought to the surface by transport.
The birth chart is simply a snapshot of the sky at the time of birth, and since most celestial bodies travel in groups, they often stay close to each other. Once we have identified how each planet and sign work together, we look to the Houses to find out exactly where that energy manifests.
